How to get Admission in NOUN; www.nou.edu.ng |www.admissions.nouonline.net

Getting admission into the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) is a direct, automated process that does not require the JAMB UTME exam. Because it is an open and distance learning institution, applications are processed on their official portal throughout the year.

The Step-by-Step Application Process

  1. Check Your Eligibility:

    • Visit the official NOUN application portal.

    • Click on “Admission” and then “Am I qualified.”

    • Select your desired Faculty, Department, and Programme. This will show you the specific O’Level requirements (typically a minimum of 5 credits, including English and Mathematics, at no more than two sittings).

  2. Apply for Admission:

    • Once you confirm you are qualified, click on “Apply for admission.”

    • Follow the on-screen prompts to input your personal details.

  3. Generate Payment (RRR):

    • After completing the pre-payment form, the system will redirect you to the Remita platform.

    • You will generate an RRR (Remita Retrieval Reference) code. You can use this code to pay the application fee (typically ₦5,000 for undergraduates) through any commercial bank, internet banking, or mobile banking app.

  4. Complete the Online Form:

    • Once payment is confirmed, return to the portal, log in using your RRR and unique ID, and fill out the full application form.

    • Upload your required documents, such as your O’Level results, birth certificate, and a recent passport-sized photograph.

  5. Submission:

    • Submit your form online. Because the process is automated, your admission letter is often generated almost instantly if your credentials meet the requirements.

Important Things to Know

  • JAMB Regularization: While you do not need to sit for the JAMB exam, all undergraduate students are required to undergo a JAMB regularization process after securing admission. This is an administrative step to ensure your records are recognized in the national database.

  • No Post-UTME: There is no screening exam or post-UTME test. Admission is based on your O’Level credentials and other academic qualifications (for Direct Entry).

  • Flexible Calendar: Admissions are generally open year-round, so you do not have to wait for a specific academic session window to apply.

  • NYSC: NOUN graduates do not participate in the standard one-year NYSC service. Instead, you are issued an NYSC Certificate of Exemption, which is legally valid for employment and other official purposes in Nigeria.
